OUR HISTORY
Zion Temple history dates back to August, 1932 when Lena Mae Lowery, Elder Moore, his companion, Mother Lee and Mother Cababagestalk began a work under the leadership of Elder Aaron Fortune.  Services was held in an apartment that had been a funeral home on Tanyard Street of Timmonsville, South Carolina.  The Congregation consisted of five members.  In the year 1933, all members were baptized in Jesus name.  At that point Elder Fortune gave up the work.

In 1933, a pool was put in under the leadership of Elder E. S. Stuckey, and the church was called Zion Mission.  Pastor Lena Mae Lowery the Founder and First Pastor of Zion Temple Holiness Church.  In 1945, the church that sets on the corner was built.  Pastor Lowery recruited converts as she preached the gospel.  She was a scholarly and visionary woman of wisdom that stayed before God in fasting and praying.  God added to the church such as should be saved.

In 1974, after the death of Pastor Lowery, Elder Cleveland Johnson was installed as pastor of Zion Temple.  He was like the Moses of his generation.  He was a quiet, but firm Pastor, a financial manager, one who stood for holiness, and prayed untiringly.  He continued to carry the mantel for the Lord

On July 24th, 2000, Elder Cleveland Johnson fell asleep in the Lord after serving 26 years as Pastor.  His dedicated service and prayer life will long be remembered in the hearts of many.

In August, 2000,  Elder John Dixon was appointed as acting Pastor of Zion Temple, building on the past, serving in the present, and moving toward the future.  Elder John Dixon was officially installed, receiving the mantel to carry on at Zion Temple, on August 25th, 2001.  In October, 2005, Elder John Dixon was ordained as a District Elder.

From our former leaders to our present leader, the church of God continues to hold on.  Pastor Lowery declared that the Lord's work is marvelous.  The 115th Psalm reads, "Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness and his wonderful works to the children of men".

OTHER PATRIOTS:

Mr. Ed Lane, very friendly with everyone. He was a type of person who helped any and everyone that needed help.  A man who believed in God and took care of his family best he knew how.  There was always prayer in his house. Prayer in the morning and at night before going to bed.  Mr. Lane was saved at an early age.  In the early 1940, Mr. Lane met Pastor Lowery.  She would come to the house and have prayer service on Wednesday nights.  Mr. Lane brought a big house and gave it to Pastor Lowery to help raise money for the church.  At one point he built a house for Mother Lee behind the church.  His wife always stood behind him.  Mr. Lane help Pastor Lowery and the community in everyway he could, Financially, Food (he raised his own hogs and cows), and Prayer.  Mr. Lane was a worker for the Lord, he laid hand on the sick and they were healed.  He did so many good things for different people.  He loved children and they in turn loved him.
